Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of the most common questions we are asked about our program. Please click on any question below to reveal its answer. If you have any further questions, please consult our Contact Us page.
How much does membership cost?
See Bushido cost brochure for membership plan details. You can try us out for a low Trial Membership fee of $30 for 3 sessions before making a commitment.
When do you train?
Our current training schedule can be found here. Please review the Team News page on this site or our Facebook page often to learn of any last minute schedule changes.
What equipment is required?
The only initial equipment that is required are handwraps and bag gloves, and we can provide guidance on what to look for when shopping. A mouth guard is initially optional but will be required prior to sparring.
Do I need to purchase any equipment prior to trying it out?
Absolutely not! Handwraps are included with your trial membership, and we have bag gloves you can borrow. If you decide to join, you will need to purchase bag gloves, and a mouth guard.
Do I have to compete or spar in order to be a member?
Absolutely not! While most of our members are training for competition, this is not a requirement. Some join just to get in shape...and if you attend all of our training sessions, you WILL get in shape. We'll still focus teaching you correct technique, though, since history has shown us that there's a good chance you'll change your mind after being around it for a while.
How long will it take before I'm able to compete?
There's no answer to this that applies to everyone as everyone progresses at his or her own pace. The first step is to show a grasp of the fundamentals along with a base of conditioning. From there, we'll move into sparring. As you get more comfortable with sparring, we'll begin looking to find an opponent of similar size and experience. For some, this may only take a couple of months. For others, it may take longer.
Are there any age limitations?
With the emergence of the Masters division for fighters over the age of 34, there really is no age limitation. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the minimum age for sparring and competition is eight. We can take younger children; however, they won't be able to spar or compete until they turn eight.
Do you have a separate training program for children?
No. All of our members train together. Our training regimen is structured in a way that allows us to modify it on the fly for our younger participants. In general, the younger participants shouldn't be there for our entire training session as it's just too long for them. So we'll work with parents to determine the best way to approach our training with each child.
